Myasthenia gravis, commonly abbreviated as MG, is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease that causes fluctuating weakness in voluntary muscles, particularly those controlling the eyes, face, throat, and limbs. It occurs when the immune system mistakenly blocks or destroys the receptors nerves use to communicate with muscles.
