Night Eating Syndrome: Causes, Complications, and Treatment Options

  


Night eating syndrome, commonly abbreviated as NES, is a form of eating disorder characterized by hyperphagia in the evening hours. It occurs when a person consumes at least 25% of their daily calorie intake after dinner and awakens in the middle of the night at least twice a week to eat. The prevalence within the US general population is 1.5%.
