Traditional Chinese Medicine – TCM
TCM, which stands for "Traditional Chinese Medicine," is the name for several treatments from China and other parts of Asia. It is considered an alternative therapy in Western countries, a long-standing medical practice widely accepted in many Asian countries. But what is TCM?
Traditional Chinese medicine is all about balance. It is also a whole-person approach, which means that the mind, body, and spirit are all considered. Any part of a complete entity out of balance—in the physical and metaphysical senses—is likely to cause disease.
It derives its roots from the yin-yang theory (absorbed by Taoism). The Yin-Yang theory is once again in balance. It says that everything in the universe can be split into two parts that are different but work together. Familiar examples include woman/man, cold/hot, moon/sun, light/dark, etc. In the strictest sense, neither good nor bad exist, but both are part of everything. Traditional Chinese medicine seeks to restore balance and health.
