Acne and Holistic treatment for this condition
Acne is a common term for blemishes, boils, and eruptions on the skin caused by blocked obstructed pores. In many cases, this defects can result in permanent marks.
Inflammation in the hair follicles and oil glands is the primary mechanism of Acne.
This skin disorder impacts almost 80% of individuals in the young age. 12 to 24 years old is the most critical age for this skin disease. For the duration of puberty increased amount of hormones can be found in both females and males. The high level of hormones causes the increased manufacturing of oil (sebum) in skin layers. Sebum is stable enough to obstruct the pores and cause a development of pimples. If bacteria develop inside of these pimples due to poor blood circulation, they become infected and transforms into pustules. After the end of puberty level of hormones may continue to stay above normal limits and in those cases, we see adult patients (25 – 40 years old) with severe attacks of the skin inflammation. Also, some female patients experience this skin disorder in the premenstrual period on a monthly basis. These bouts deepened on the production of extra progesterone right after ovulation.
Acne is an illness that impacts the sebaceous glands deep in the skin. The sebum ducts also known as pores drain the oily fluid from the glands. Also, these tubes connect to the hair follicles. When the pores get blocked with sebum, and the sebum flows inside of follicles instead of outside the skin the inflammation in the follicles develops. As a result of this process, pimples grow and at some point become infected. The most critical areas for pimples are a face, shoulders, upper back, and neck.
There are no particular causes of this skin disorder; however, there are few factors that may stimulate the excess production of the sebum and secondary cause boils development.
- Increased production of progesterone in female after ovulation.
- Increased production of androgens in young males.
- Hormonal disbalance due to pregnancy.
- Use of birth control pills changes the hormonal background.
- Genetic factors. Scientists proved that many patients with this skin ailment have a family history of this skin disorder.
- Hygiene of the skin is a critical factor. Washing a skin with warm soapy water opens the pores and improves the sebum flow and drainage.
- Use of washcloth or exfoliates removes dead skin cells and improves the skin condition.
- Skin irritation or scratches stimulate the development of bacteria.
- Oily cosmetic and makeup products.
- Some prescription medicines (Iodides, Steroids, and Bromides) may cause instability of immune system and blemishes development.
- Some work-related factors may also cause or, at least, stimulate acne development.
Mechanism of Acne
- Disproportional excretion of sebum by sebaceous glands causes obstruction of the oil ducts and hair follicles.
- The further buildup of the compound created from oil and dead skin cells cause blockage of sebum channels.
- This creates an excellent background for the skin bacteria to reproduce itself wildly.
- As a result, of the adult population of bacteria and sometimes even yeast infection, skin condition exacerbates, generating lesions.
There are few different forms of acne with their specific forms, locations, and severity of symptoms
Acne vulgaris
This type of acne frequently experienced during the puberty by both girls and boys, usually on a skin of a face and upper part of the upper body.
Acne Rosacea
This kind of acne often is seen as pink or red skin elements primarily on the face.
Acne keloidal is nuchae (pseudofolliculitis nuchae)
This skin illness usually caused by mechanical injuries – often from shaving.
Acne conglobata (Hidradenitis suppurativa)
This disease grounds on inflammation of the sudoriparous glands – glands that produce sweat. The inflammation in these organs is very similar to inflammation in the oil glands. Also, because the most common locations for Conglobata are underarms and groin areas, hair follicles almost always get involved.
Acne Cosmetica
This form of skin elements is usually caused by the use of some cosmetic products.
Acne fulminant
This disorder is very similar to conglobata, but the term acne fulminant used in most severe cases.
Acne Medicamentosa
Similar to birth control pills as it described above, some medicines may cause hormonal disbalance and secondary acne. This form of acne usually appears when an individual starts new drugs.
Baby acne
Skin elements in the form of red bumps on the face of infants also known as children allergy.
Chloracne
Skin rash instigated by contact to chlorinated hydrocarbons such as Chloroform, Carbon tetrachloride, dioxins, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) or PCBs.
Acne vulgaris is the most usual kind of acne. Almost 80% of teenagers, both boys and girls experience it during puberty. Very often acne vulgaris have a tendency to vanish or at least fade after puberty.
Acne Treatment
Modern Western medicine does not have a treatment for acne and unless the process is extreme patients get a recommendation to keep skin clean and use a neutral soap.
Homeopathic medicine sees in acne not a skin disorder, but hormonal disproportion that causes extra oil production and secondary stimulates acne development. As a result, of homeopathic assessment medical practitioner is looking for the original issue that lies at the start point of acne vulgaris.
To prove individual approach in homeopathy, I will describe two similar cases of acne that I recently treated with homeopathic remedies.
Case 1:
Tamara B. 24-year-old female experienced severe skin rash on her face and neck. The first time she experienced acne vulgaris when she was about 13 years old. Her first period started when she was 16, and since that time her menstrual cycle is irregular, and she is bleeding once in 3 or even four months. When period starts, it lasts for 1-2 days, and the flow of blood is insufficient. The patient also reports headaches that decrease in severity in open air. She prefers cold temperature to warm and does not tolerate closed room. This white female is 5’6” tall, and her weight is 140 lbs. Her skin is pale with the exception of the skin on her face and neck. She is very sensitive and according to her, husband’s opinion “she is crying for no reason.”
I prescribed Pulsatilla 200 once a day, and after a month, her face skin was clean and smooth.
Case 2:
Jenifer S. This 17-year-old female suffers from the vulgaris form of acne since she was 12. The most critical location of the skin rush is the right side of her face. The rush starts suddenly without any reason in the form of large red swollen pimple sometimes with a white center. From the very beginning this skin element accompanying with the severe burning pain. The patient cannot find the relations of the skin rash with any food, medications, menstrual cycle or mechanical injuries. The patient is 5’5” tall, and her weight is 170 lbs., natural
Blonde hair. She has blue eyes, and her pupils dilated. Her IQ is high; she is in a good mood and smiling. During the duration of our conversation, her face got red and then back pale a few times. She likes to wear a hat all the time. She is allergic to honey and other bee’s products.
Based on my assessment I prescribed Belladonna 6C and Apis 6 two times per day each. I recommend that she started taking these remedies as soon as she feels that a new skin rush starts. Two months later I saw this patient for re-evaluation. She told me that the new skin rush started next day after she left my office. She immediately started remedies that I prescribed, and by the end of the day, the skin element vanished and never developed. She continued taking medications as prescribed and new rushes never developed again. The old acne healed with time and her face skin becomes healthy.
Homeopathy is a reliable weapon against this skin disorder. If treatment performed based on the constitutional philosophy of homeopathic medicine acne attacks stop, the hormonal level moves to the area which we call “with normal limits” and the disease ends.
At Viva Healthy Life, I Dr. Tsan have an extensive experience in acne treatment using homeopathic remedies. Sometimes for a better result, I use a combination of homeopathy and acupuncture or Reiki. The effectiveness of my treatment is almost 90%. Homeopathic medicine is harmless for kids and adults, so I treat patients of any age.
